Little and large

Sunshine means butterflies, and they have been lured out by the current blissful spell (which continues this morning in full, glorious force, judging by the view over my early morning teacup). So far, we have had Peacocks, Small Tortoiseshells, Orange Tips, all three kinds of White and this little Holly Blue.

It jinks about all day in the garden with a restlessness which is most frustrating for the ageing photographer. But then wouldn't you be nervy if a great big shadow like this kept looming over you? I'm sure my shorts aren't really that baggy. The camera can lie sometimes, or at least give an exaggerated impression.

Hello Martin, Ive noticed a lot of Holly Blues way over here in Kirkstall/Headingley during the fine weather this last week. We even enjoyed our very own Holly Blue garden sighting recently.

Hiya! i thought of you the other day when passing Kirkstall abbey in this brilliant weather. That bit of riverside is a wondrous thing to have so close to the middle of Leeds.

it's great about the Holly Blues. We see ours every day at the moment; only one at a time but it (or they) has been faithful to us for many years. I've seen a Common Blue here a few times in past years and the Speckled Wood's increase is unstoppable.

All warm wishes, M
